83rd US Colored Infantry (new)
This unit was organized from the 2nd Kansas Colored and was re-designated as the 83rd (new) US Colored Infantry on December 13th, 1864. The unit was attached to the 2nd Brigade in the District of the Frontier of the 7th Corps of Arkansas, till January 1865. Like the 79th, this unit was then attached to the Colored Brigade, of the 7th Corps, Depart of Arkansas till February 1865.
The 79th US Colored Infantry had duty at Fort Smith, till January 1865,and moved to Little Rock, between January and February 4th and had duty in Little Rock until October 9th when they were mustered out. They were moved to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, where the soldiers were discharged on November 27, 1865.
