Native South A New
Journal on Native Americans and the South
The editors of Native South, a new academic journal published by the
University of Nebraska press that will focus on native peoples in the American
South, seek full-length scholarly article manuscripts as well as shorter essays
on on-going research, salient scholarly issues, or any other aspect of the
field. The purpose of the journal is to investigate Southeastern Indian history
in its own right (to encourage the study of Southeastern Indians as worthy
subjects of historical inquiry) and to examine the relationships and connections
between Southeastern Indians and other Indian and non-Indian peoples, with the
ultimate goal to expose the influences of Indian peoples on the South's history
and culture. The journal challenges the conception that Southern history is only
black and white and will expose the various ways that Indian peoples influenced
the region's past and present.
The deadline for submissions to the inaugural issue will be 31 May 2008 and
submissions after the deadline will be welcome for consideration for future
issues.
Submissions, correspondence, and questions should be directed to the executive
editor, James Carson, at jc35@queensu.ca
